MASTER IN FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING (M.F.A.)


The Master of Finance and Accounting is a  four semester (two academic years) P.G. Program and affiliated to Bangalore University, designed to meet the changing challenges of business in the next millennium. Designed as a superspeciality course, MFA has strong conceptual and practical inputs.

The objective of MFA course is to impart professional education and training in various aspects of accounting and finance, to the students to provide them with opportunities to develop conceptual and analytical skills and to foster positive attitudes essential for their development in to competent and professional in the field of accounting and finance.

Eligibility:

Candidates having Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Commerce/Accounting/Management /Economics of this University or any other recognized University and have secured at least 50% Marks in the aggregate of all papers studied in the qualifying examinations, are eligible for admission to this course.

Pedagogy:

The teaching methods are designed to transform the students into competent professionals for financial sector. Innovative teaching methods such as business games, case analysis, role plays, group discussions, panel discussions, seminars and surveys will be extensively used. Experts from corporate sector will be associated in all these programmes. Thus, a good blend of conceptual skill and practical insight will be provided.

Project Work and viva :

During the 4th semester, each student shall be required to take up research study in the area of financial sector, and prepare a report under the guidance of a faculty member and submit a report to the Chairman of the department. This will help to improve one's analytical skills, besides enabling him or her bridge the gap between conceptual knowledge and practical application.

Internship Training :

Training is an integral part of the learning in order to get a feel of the functioning of a typical organisation. The student is required to undergo internship training for a period of 4-6 weeks after completion of the second semester in an organization of repute. Further, he or she is required to submit a report to the Chairman of the department at the end of the training period on his /her experience.

Career Opportunities:

Those who pass out from the MFA course are likely to be absorbed in managerial positions in commercial and development banks, mutual funds, asset management companies, venture capital financing companies, stock broking firms and a host of other finance related firms and companies.

The Department has a placement cell to liaison between the students and potential employers.
