It is a three year degree program spread over six semesters affiliated to Bangalore University. Genetics is the study of genes and its interaction with the environment. One of the ever fascinating mechanism is the self reproduction. Genetics examines the mechanism of biological inheritance. Ever since the discovery of genes and its role in various biological mechanism, it has become the latest trend. The mapping of the human genome has led to the in-depth research in the field of Genetics. The Global importance of the Genetic Engineering of plants and animals has led to the birth of genetically modifies foods. One of the most challenging area of research is gene therapy, the best means to control severe hereditary defects.
The course covers various aspects of Cell Biology, Mendelian Genetics, Mutations, Extra chromosomal inheritance, Human Genetics, developmental Genetics, Recombinant DNA Technology, population Genetics, developmental Genetics and Tissue culture.
Curriculum: The course consist of 24 Instructional papers and 12 practical papers spread over six semesters.
Eligibility: Candidate should have passed Pre-University course or 12th standard or any equivalent examination with Biology as one of the optional subjects. |
