M.Sc. Applied Genetics

Our knowledge of Genetics has been in a very dynamic state of evolution since Mendel's law of heredity were rediscovered. There has been speedy progress, since Watson and Cricks discovery of the double helix structure of the DNA molecule in 1953, in understanding the molecular basis of the enormous variability occurring in the living organisms and on methods of purposeful manipulation of genetic traits. Genetics offers considerable scope for the betterment of the mankind through the applications of principles and techniques.

M.Sc., Applied Genetics is a two years postgraduate program spread over four semester. The course focuses on the different fields of genetics-Developmental Genetics, Bio-chemical Genetics, Cyto Genetics, Human Genetics, Gene actions, Modern Genetics, Applied Genetics, Population Genetics and Bioinformatics.
 

Eligibility: 

Graduate in Science with minimum of 50% in the aggregate of all the optional subjects, with any three of the following subjects: Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Botany, Applied Botany, Zoology, Applied Zoology, Environmental Science, Microbiology, Bio-Technology, Genetics, Applied Genetics and Sericulture.

Curriculum:

The course consist of  16 instructional papers and 8 practical papers spread over 4 semesters and  an Industrial project in the final semester. During the second year of the course, the candidate shall undertake an educational study tour to visit industries and research institutions concerned with Genetics and submit a report on the same and a project in the final semester.
