Indian Academy Group of Institutions hosted its maiden Job Fair on 24 th May, 2008. Out of thirteen companies of domestic and multinational invited for the jobs fair, eleven companies participated. The participated companies were Reflect Business Machines, Zenith Softech, DBFS, HDFC, Sky Touch, Placid Technologies Pvt. Ltd., SJR Group, Cosmic Strands, Nirvana, Bioorganics & Applied Materials Pvt. Ltd. and Ceasefire . In the short span of time, the organizing committee extended invitation to about 150 arts and science colleges and
business schools in and around Bangalore.
The Indian Academy Jobs Fair, 2008 made magnificent arrangements in terms of publicity for the program and infrastructure and hospitality for all the company-participants. Each company was given a stall with necessary facilities supported by a faculty member and a supportive service staff. A seminar hall was arranged with LCD and screen facilities for those companies who want to interact with and orient the students about the company's policies and requirements. Interview zone was administered with four interview board rooms A separate students' supportive service unit, which was equipped with a PC and a printer, served its level best to facilitate students for printing and duplicating their resumes and an expert attached to the service administered the professionalism and content of the resumes.
The Jobs fair commenced the registration at 9.45 am and went up to 6.00pm. As per the record, 448 students registered in which 365 students participated from the hosting institute (163 MSc; 94 MBA & 108 UG) and the rest (83) from various other colleges in Bangalore . It was observed that the fair benefited many alumni as well. At the end of the recruitment activities, all the companies were disseminated response forms which contains details such as the number of students participated, the short listed and the comments. It has been noted that the total turnover to various participant-companies was about 609 students. Companies such as Reflect Business Machines, DBFS, HDFC, Sky Touch, Placid Technologies, SJR Group and Nirvana were able to shortlist 119 candidates for the final selection. Other companies withheld the decision which is said to be intimated to the concerned in the due course of time.
The programme was found to be successful despite the prevalence of narrow time gap between the genesis and organizing the programme. It is nonetheless suggested that such jobs fair would be more effective if it were conducted during the month of March-April. Furthermore, most of the participant-companies' keen interest to recruit commerce and management students caused a disparity leaving many science students of UG and PG into discontent.
